Spring Mood Boards

Are you suddenly finding some stirrings and fluttering feelings of spring?

As we emerge slowly from the depths of winter it is easy to get swept away with I MUST DO EVERYTHING. I like to think of spring as the new year, waking from my slumber and wanting exciting, nourishing activities and adventures.

Here are some simple ways to easy into the months of spring and set some goals for the year ahead through mood board creating.

Some ideas for creative expression

Here are some ideas to use to take the stress out of where to start. You do not have to use them all take what is helpful and leave what is not. This is the first step to opening up the year in a creative nourishing way..

1. Prepare your space.

I find creating a comfortable space to create so relaxing, my last blog started with the same idea and I felt it was worth repeating. Here is what I had to say…………………………………………………………

First preparing your space, I find the environment really helps me when it comes to making and reduces that sticky bit of the brain that is saying “what am I supposed to make” that can lead to “what if it doesn’t turn out right” that can lead to “I’m not good enough so won’t bother”.

This is just fear meet it with kindness the way you would a small child and carry on.

I like a warm space lightly lit with some soothing music, but do explore what works for you. I always put out a range of materials. It can be really helpful to switch material if you start to feel overwhelmed. Simple washable paints pens and crayons work well. Believe or not a pencil can be more intimidating that painting remember this is all about playing.

2. Get in the Mood

The aim of a mood board is to feel excited about whats to come, so check in with yourself, are you ready to relax and create freely?

Give yourself time, allow any judgement to melt away and prepare to play. Shake it out, have a dance or rest. It’s a choice that you can make.

3. Creation Station

Choose a piece of card that feels comfortable to work with, don’t overwhelm yourself with a huge A1 piece. Start a bit smaller you can always make a new one if you want to, it doesn’t have to be perfect and may evolve over time.

See what you already have before running down to hobby craft, you will be surprised what’s there waiting to be found. I like to tear pages out of half used sketch books or find inspirational sentences or words from my vast collection of books. Seeing if there are any old magazines beautiful wrapping paper stuck up in the loft.

Gather a collection of Simple Art materials, some water colours, pens and pencils.

If you are completely starting from scratch and don’t hoard all of the above see what friends have or nip to your local charity shop.

make this fun like a treasure hunt and part of the experience, intention is everything.

4. Journaling

You may want to have a journal to write down your thoughts and ideas that you want to bring to life.

Begin by listing objects that light you up

spaces that light you up

experiences that light you up

colours that light you up

This will help the creativity to flow, you do not have to use everything but sometimes writing it all down can help to find focus.

Questions to consider, try and look at these from different angles i.e work, family, self

What are your short term goals or aspirations ?

What are your long term goals and aspirations?

5. Let your creativity flow

You now have all your tools, your beautiful space and how you picture the year ahead.

All that is left is to create that picture, allow yourself to be drawn to colours and materials.

Start with a background, this is a layered process.

Add some inspirational words or definate goals if that feels good. Add images made or found. Allow yourself to be inspired by the nature around you.

Take you time, enjoy.

Reminder - If you are new to making have a few goes and choose your favourite, the more we make the more confident the materials and experience feels.

Ultimately be kind and patient with yourself, through practice and compassion you can build grow and make anything your heart desires.

Lots of love,

Becky
